PHOTOGRAPHY

Here are some samples of my latest photos. I've always loved photography and I've had some great opportunities this year to not only cover local events in person, but to also stage photos for themed features and covers. It's been a lot of fun playing around with different camera settings and really getting a handle on Adobe Photoshop.

HOMECOMING COVERAGE: AMERICAN FLAG

This is one of my favorite photos I took at our Homecoming Parade this year. Although I often gravitate towards portraits because I find people much more interesting to capture, I really like this photo because I think I was able to catch this sort of vivacious moment of movement with the wind and the flag. I also find it sort of symbolic as a "rebirth," so to speak, as we entered the new school year and held our Homecoming Dance for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

HOMECOMING COVERAGE: PARADE INTERCEPTION

This is another one of my favorites from the Homecoming Parade. In this photo, a group of senior boys had just hijacked the parade in a moment of rebellion and hilarity. Even though they weren't in the scheduled program, they certainly made their mark on the parade, and I think the movement of the photo, as well as just their facial expressions really tell a story beyond what words can say.

PORTRAIT

Here is an outtake from one of the photoshoots I held with my friends for a feature package on relationships. This photoshoot in particular resulted in me forcing my friends (who are dating) to do a variety of poses (especially with different hand placements), and although this photo wasn't published in print, I'm really attached to it because of the emotional significance to my friends, but more so because it was such a vulnerable moment that was captured. I find hands to be really expressive, and it was a joy to do this photoshoot with my friends.

DIVIDED DETROIT OUTTAKE

This is an outtake from a photoshoot I had in downtown Detroit for my story on gentrification. The bakery pictured, Sister Pie, is considered to be in one of the more gentrified areas of the city (hence why it is pictured), and was one of my focus areas during the shoot. As I previously mentioned, although I'm not very interested in landscape photography, I think this building is especially cool looking and the photo itself serves as reminder for me as to all of the work I put into the "Divided Detroit" story.
